The 2011 Sammies nominees were selected by SN&R’s readers, some 6,000 unique voters who visited and picked their favorite musicians during July and August.

Those who’ll be inducted into the 2011 Hall of Fame class for their awesome contributions to the local music scene include: Anton Barbeau, who resides in England now but still reps Sacto hard Hoods, whose frontman Mikey has operated local all-ages venues and toured the world Instagon, who’s invited hundreds of musicians under his moniker’s umbrella over the years and deejays CrookOne and Larry Rodriguez, who do so much more for Sacto music than simply throw down sweet tunes at dope parties. Think about it: Even if you go see one new artist or band or musician a week for a year, it would take more than four years to get out and see every nominee in this 2011 Sacramento Area Music Awards class.Īnyway, this year SN&R celebrates two decades of recognizing the region’s most talented artists, from Placerville to P Street, Miners Foundry in Nevada City to The Hub in Midtown (R.I.P.).

Nearly 1,000 local musicians, some 250 groups or bands, 38 different categories-the 20th anniversary Sammies nominees prove that, despite grumbling otherwise, the local music scene isn’t as moribund as the national economy, and by a long shot.
